Edmonton Wedding Planner: Jenny + Hon
Jenny + Hon’s gorgeous Oasis Centre Edmonton wedding is featured in the Spring/Summer 2014 issue of Blush Magazine. From a sumptuous Vera Wang gown to a custom DIY chalkboard photo booth backdrop, every detail pointed to romance.
The reception featured a traditional Chinese Lion Dance, an expansive sweet table by LOVEInc. Dessert Styling, and a very special signature drink: DougieDog Root Beer brewed by one of Jenny’s family members in Vancouver. The phenomenal family style menu was designed by Culina Catering and featured three types of appetizers, coconut poppy seed salad with berries, edam cheese and candied walnuts, pork con leche and chipotle roasted garlic braised bison short ribs.
Sharon Litchfield was the perfect photographer to capture their day – check out more of this beautiful wedding on Sharon’s blog and be sure to pickup your copy of Blush to read about Jenny + Hon’s love story!

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Andrea + Tom
Last week we shared the inspiration behind Andrea + Tom’s elegant winter wedding at The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. There are so many details about this wedding that I absolutely adore: Andrea’s breathtaking gown from Delica Bridal, the rustic elegant flowers by faBLOOMosity, and the custom illustration of Andrea, Tom and their son Max designed for their stationery suite by Pinkpolka. It was truly a special day for a very deserving couple. Read on to hear what the gorgeous bride had to say about her wedding day as featured on top wedding blog, Style Me Pretty!
“Tom and I loved the idea of having a wedding that felt more like a stylish party than a formal, over-the-top event. We had the same approach when it came to making choices about the décor – we wanted it to feel warm and rustic, with a backdrop of elegance. I was thrilled that our wedding planner, Jennifer Bergman, was able to achieve that vision. The palette featured neutral tones, ivory and pops of metallics. We also incorporated warm amber lighting and candles that helped create a welcoming feeling despite being in a large ballroom.
It was important to us to incorporate some personal touches into the wedding: our wedding stationery featured a custom illustration of our family and we included a photo of Tom’s mother along with a bouquet of lilacs (her favourite) at the entry table to have her there in spirit. Our wedding day was absolutely magical and we enjoyed every bit of it!”

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Leslie + Warren
I’m very excited to finally share this beautiful June wedding with you! We’ve been keeping it under wraps until it made its debut in the Spring/Summer 2013 issue of Blush Magazine:
Leslie is one of the sweetest brides I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, and to top it off she’s supermodel gorgeous! When I first met Leslie to chat about her wedding vision, romance was a key theme. After seeing her and Warren together it all made sense – the love that these two share is truly special.
The day started off early with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony at Warren’s parents’ house, followed by a Catholic ceremony at St. Joseph’s Basilica. The reception took place in Manning Hall at the Art Gallery of Alberta where ‘Modern Romance’ came to life. The walls were draped in soft ivory voile and lit in a lavender glow. Black chiavari chairs provided a modern contrast to ivory satin tablecloths, while wheatgrass and phalaenopsis orchid centrepieces added a fresh punch of life to the room.
Guests were treated to a lively Lion Dance performance followed by a delicious dinner courtesy of Zinc Catering.

Leslie + Warren: Thank you for allowing us to be part of your love story. Wishing you a lifetime of happiness together!

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Theresa + Jake
We had the pleasure of working with Theresa + Jake for over two years to plan their 11.11.11 wedding. Living in the remote town of Norman Wells, Northwest Territories, they chose to have a destination wedding in Edmonton to create a memorable weekend for all their guests (for some, it would be their first trip out of the North)!
Matrix Hotel was the perfect setting for this modern, edgy wedding. Theresa wore a stunning Vera Wang gown accessorized with a black sash and sparkling Christian Louboutin pumps. Jake was dashingly handsome in black on black. Together they looked like they could be on the cover of a magazine!
The wedding design was inspired by its auspicious date, as the three elevens visually create clean, modern lines. Paired with a dramatic colour palette of black, pewter and dark purple, this pattern was carried throughout many elements of the wedding. To incorporate their northern culture, Theresa and Jake gave guests miniature Mukluk ornaments as favours. These were handmade by Theresa’s aunts – a loving, personal touch!
Alicia Price is the talented photographer behind these gorgeous images that tell the story of Theresa + Jake’s wedding day. We were honoured that this wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty Canada!
{Special thanks to Jessica for assisting!}
The ceremony was held in Matrix Hotel’s Amber Ballroom. The couple’s daughters served as their Flower Girl and Ring Bearer – they looked adorable and super stylish in black tulle and plum accents!
The stationery suite reflected Theresa + Jake’s wedding style perfectly and helped tie everything together. It was expertly designed by Jenelle at Pinkpolka.
The reception decor included black chiavari chairs, pewter pintuck linens and black lacquer charger plates finished with black satin napkins. This unconventional palette was further accented with dramatic fuchsia and purple uplighting. Ultra-modern centrepieces by La Piazza Dasee featured a cluster of three arrangements and included purple callas, dendrobium orchids and white hydrangea.
Whimsical Cake Studio supplied the delicious wedding cake and sweet table treats, including: sugar cookies, mini cupcakes, square cake pops, macarons and chocolate dipped pretzel sticks. The table was designed in an all-white theme with accents of silver incorporated in the linear pattern.
Chunky silver table numbers were the perfect modern table accessories; below, a photo booth with quirky props kept guests entertained all night.
Theresa, Jake + Family: It was an honour to get to know you all throughout the planning process. I thoroughly enjoyed your visits to Edmonton and wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Hala + Sean
Married exactly one year from the day they were engaged (in front of the Eiffel Tower, I might add), it’s no surprise that romance was the running theme for this wedding from the start. Hala + Sean’s modern day fairytale wedding was held back in August on a sunny day in Edmonton, Alberta. They chose to have their ‘first look‘ at The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald before heading over to St. Joachim Catholic Church to say their vows.
As always, Sharon Litchfield Photography did an amazing job capturing the romance and elegance of this gorgeous wedding. The pictures truly speak for themselves – enjoy!

Hala’s super-talented beauty team: Anita Gill Makeup Artistry and addcolo Wigs
Hala took everyone’s breath away in her stunning Tara Keely ballgown (style 2051) from Novelle Bridal!
Her beautiful bridesmaids looked picture perfect in fuchsia chiffon dresses.
Kate Ashton Florists designed the gorgeous florals. Hala’s romantic bouquet featured mini ivory calla lilies, pink and ivory roses, lisianthus, stock, and mini pink cymbidium orchids.
After the ceremony guests made their way to The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald’s Wedgwood Room for cocktails, dinner and dancing. We kept the décor design simple to let the beauty of the room’s architecture take centre stage. Lush pink centrepieces popped on the elegant white and silver tables, and reception stationery by Pinkpolka Wedding Design completed the look.
Duelling pianists entertained guests throughout the entire evening! The first dances were one of my favourite parts of the entire day – you could feel the emotion in the room – beautiful!
Congratulations, Hala + Sean! It was an absolute pleasure to work with you and your families to bring your wedding vision to life. Wishing you all the best in the future!

In the Limelight with Anita Gill Makeup Artistry
Looking good on your wedding day isn’t enough for most brides – you want to drop jaws and knock the socks off your groom’s feet as he sees you for the first time, right!? Well, to get jaw-droppingly glam on your big day look no further than Anita Gill Makeup Artistry. Anita is an über-talented makeup artist in Edmonton and I have had the pleasure of working with her on several weddings over the past couple of years. Check out what this makeup maven has to say about makeup tips and trends for your big day.
Who’s the lady behind the (makeup) brush?
I have been in the makeup industry for almost 6 years now. I started my makeup career off at MAC Cosmetics and worked there for just under 5 years. It wasn’t until early last year that I decided to move away from MAC and further pursue being a freelance makeup artist – and I can honestly say that that was one of the best decisions I have ever made. In addition to being a makeup artist, I am also just finishing up my last year in the B.Comm program at Grant MacEwan University. People often ask me why I am a Business and Human Resources student if I want to continue on with makeup. The simple answer is because I one day hope to turn this freelance business into a full makeup and hair studio.
Why did you become a makeup artist?
Originally I was interested in makeup simply because both of my sisters, Sunita Sumaru and Susan Gill, are makeup artists. I think naturally I just wanted to follow in their footsteps, but over the years I’ve discovered that it was more than that. I soon realized that my job was more than just doing makeup; it included making women look and feel their best. Knowing that I have the ability to make a woman feel super glamorous is the best feeling in the world. The reactions I get from women after doing their makeup is what makes this job so amazing to me.
What’s your favourite part about your job?
There are two things that I truly love about being a makeup artist: The first is that I am able to use my creativity to make a woman look and feel beautiful. The second is that I get to meet some of the most amazing people; this includes both people that I do makeup for, along with vendors that I have met within the wedding industry.
What are your top tips for brides when considering their bridal makeup?
- First and foremost, it is nice to go into your makeup trial with some inspiration. So even if you just have a picture from a magazine or from a website, bring it with you because it will help communicate what your vision is for your wedding day makeup.
- Keep in mind that makeup always looks a lot softer in pictures than it does in person, so do not be afraid to go a little darker/brighter for your bridal makeup. Having that bit of added depth in your eye shadow and a stronger cheek contour can really make all the difference in your pictures.
- Make sure you get your eyebrows done before the big day. I can’t even begin to describe how much makeup artists appreciate a good, clean brow.
- Lastly, say yes to the false lashes! Even if you choose the most natural lashes, they will still make a huge difference. In my opinion, no makeup is complete without liner and lashes!
What bridal makeup trends are you seeing for 2012?
When I first started doing makeup the bridal makeup trend really seemed to be natural, classy, soft neutrals and mauve. However, this trend is completely changing. The up and coming trends are definitely more of a soft smoky eye with nude pink lips and pink cheeks, and the second trend would be a neutral eye lid, with heavy liner and thick lashes, with a more bronzed cheek and neutral lip.
When should brides book their bridal makeup artist?
Be sure to book your makeup artist well in advance. A lot of people assume that makeup artists can be booked a month or two before the wedding date, but this can leave you super disappointed. Try to book at least 6 months in advance – it is surprising how quickly vendors book up these days! Also, book your trial closer to your wedding day (within two months of the wedding day), even if your wedding day is a year away. I say this because when brides get their trial done too far in advance, by the time the wedding comes around, their style has changed and they decide to change the way they want their makeup. In my experience, brides who have a trial too far in advance always end up getting a second trial done closer to the date. Many brides question this by asking, “Well I don’t want to wait until a month before the wedding, because what if I hate my trial and choose to go with a different makeup artist?” My answer to this is simple – that is why it is important to look around for a makeup artist, to check out their work, and to ensure that they are reputable in the makeup and wedding industry. If all this is done, then you should not worry and just trust that you are in good hands for your wedding day!
