Edmonton Wedding Coordinator: Katherine + Stephan
Katherine + Stephan spent their entire wedding day smiling – which is exactly how it should be. These two have an infectious zest for life, and this celebratory atmosphere was present throughout the festivities from start to finish.
Once they were all dressed up and looking incredible, Katherine + Stephan met up at Fort Edmonton Park for a ‘first look‘, followed by photos with their awesome wedding party. The rain held off for a late afternoon ceremony on the Hangar lawn. Guests then enjoyed refreshments and lawn games including bean bag toss and mini golf.
The evening continued inside the Hangar, where over 200 guests celebrated with delicious food, drinks, toasts, an ice cream dessert bar, and of course – dancing! Kelsy Nielson did a gorgeous job capturing the special moments of the day. Enjoy this sneak peek!
Katherine + Stephan: thank you for allowing us to be part of your incredible day. Looking forward to seeing where your next adventure takes you!

Destination I Do: Lake Louise
While we’re based in Edmonton, Alberta, we’ve had the pleasure of planning and designing weddings in many beautiful destinations – both in Canada and abroad! This series will showcase some of our favourite locations including information for couples considering a wedding away from home.

Destination ‘I Do’ Wedding Series: Lake Louise, Alberta
Nestled in the Canadian Rockies and just a short 40 min drive from Banff, Lake Louise is truly a unique mountain escape. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (CLL) has a rich history dating back as early as 1911 when the General Manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway constructed a one-story log cabin on the shores of Lake Louise – a glacier fed lake with stunning emerald hues. CLL has hosted many famous guests and Royalty including Marilyn Monroe, Christopher Reeve and Queen Elizabeth II, to name a few.
Chateau Lake Louise offers several different event spaces to host your wedding festivities no matter the size – from an intimate gathering of 20 guests in the Lefroy Room, all the way up to 600 guests in Mount Temple Ballroom. One of the most popular wedding spaces is Victoria Ballroom, which has recently completed renovations in September 2016.
You can see from our weddings below that no matter the season, The Chateau’s views will not disappoint!
Here are a few photos we have compiled of our Lake Louise weddings with this gorgeous gown to show you the

Quick – give us your best Tweetography (tell us about yourself in 140 characters or less)!
I’m a wedding and lifestyle photographer who loves my adorable daughters, my hilarious husband, and capturing sweet moments with my ever-present camera.
Why did you become a photographer?
I originally wanted to go into cinematography – I love all things film. I started taking photography classes in high school because I thought it would be a good stepping-stone; then I ended up really connecting with photography. It was so fun capturing moments and seeing them in print when you picked up your little white film envelope from the lab. I wanted that excitement for a career.
Who have been the biggest influences in your life?
Without sounding like an Oscar speech, I’d have to say my family. When I was starting out they always helped me practice my posing and let me continually shoot them to gain confidence. After I married Tim he was a great support, he told me to just go for it, quit my day job and start my business. He helped me just jump in with both feet!
How would you describe your photography style?
I would say it’s romantic, natural photography. I don’t get to0 carried away with lighting or dramatic posing but rather put the emphasis on natural beauty and capturing love between individuals. I hope my photography is more about the people in the image and the connection they share rather then being about a backdrop (but, hey, I love those too). I definitely lean more towards classic Alberta landscapes – fields, trees, old homesteads and big skies.
Do you have a favorite part of the wedding day that you love to shoot?
Other than the posed portrait part of the day (which of course I love), I really enjoy the reception. I know a lot of photographers dread it, but I love hearing the speeches and watching the first dance. I still tear up every reception during a heartfelt speech or a good slideshow! I also love seeing a Bride’s vision come to life. It’s so fun to hear about all her ideas and projects and then see the final result just shine with creativity.
What are some wedding day photography tips that couples should keep in mind?
- I’d say it’s important to spend time with your photographer before the wedding. Getting to know each other can make the wedding day a lot more relaxed.
- Everything seems to take longer then you think, so budget time appropriately. I never want to steal a Bride and Groom away from family hugs and well wishes – it’s part of the fun! Being able to take it all in without feeling like you’re missing out on essential picture time is important.
- And when portrait time comes, just relax and have fun. If you trust your photographer, you can just enjoy your moment in the spotlight and know your personalities are being captured perfectly.

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Kristy + Joe
On Friday we shared a glimpse at the design board that inspired Kristy + Joe’s romantic Italian wedding. After spending some time with these two lovebirds, it’s obvious why romance was an important theme for their wedding, but they also wanted to put a modern spin on the traditional. To bring their vision to life we paired bold punches of colour with romantic elements – such as soft fluffy blooms, drapery and luxe fabrics.
Not only was this couple a perfect match on the inside, but they looked great together too! Kristy wore a beautiful ballgown with lace detailing and a sweetheart neckline. Joe rocked the ‘Bond’ look in a custom white and black tuxedo – it was so sharp and classic!
After the ceremony at St. Albert Parish, the wedding party travelled to the University of Alberta to take photos with the super-talented Kelsy Nielson Photographer before making their way to the reception at Santa Maria Goretti Centre. A delicious five-course Italian meal, heartfelt toasts and an awesome dance party rounded out this incredible day. Enjoy the photos below and head over to Kelsy’s blog to see more of this wonderful wedding!
{Special thanks to Jessica for assisting!}
Here’s the B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L bride on her way to the ceremony in a vintage car – could she look any more perfect?! You’ll notice that her accessories and hair change throughout the day (love a bride who is all about the details)!
The bridesmaids wore flowing floor length chiffon gowns (Dessy 2832) in varying shades of pink, purple and red. The stunning bouquets by Laurel’s On Whyte were a gorgeous blend of peonies, freesia, dendrobium orchids, dahlias, leptospermum and dusty miller. This combination was once again a perfect interpretation of modern romance and the ladies looked amazing!
The hall at Santa Maria Goretti Centre was fully draped and lit by Karin and her team at Site 6. Drapery adds so much romance to a room – not to mention, it covers undesirable finishes! The lighting added a modern punch of colour in complementary shades of pink and purple.
The tables were dressed with lavender linens and silver chair wraps. Ruffled charger plates topped with plum napkins and mirrored napkin rings were finished with a “bow” effect to continue the romantic theme. Kristy + Joe sat at a cozy sweetheart table covered in a gorgeous pewter dahlia overlay from Elegant Touches.
A comfy lounge area was flanked by two lucite bars that served Kristy + Joe’s signature cocktail, the Eternitini. The incredible dessert table was a nod to Kristy’s French heritage and included a macaron tower and croquembouche by Cake Couture, as well as numerous French pastries and sweets made with love by Kristy’s mother. Silver vintage frames were suspended above the table for added interest.
Kristy + Joe: You two were so wonderful to work with and I loved being a part of your journey to the altar. Wishing you all of the best life has to offer!

Inspiration to Reality: Kristy + Joe
A lot goes into the wedding design process at Jennifer Bergman Weddings. We begin by determining a bride and groom’s wedding style – the look they envision, the atmosphere and feelings they want their event to evoke, the level of formality, etc. We then create visual inspiration boards and detailed budgets. Once we’re all on the same page we execute, securing rental and décor items, collaborating with a florist to design centrepieces and bouquets, and working with a stationer to create the couple’s invitations and reception stationery to perfectly reflect their wedding style.
As we’re nearing the end of our 2012 wedding season, it’s so exciting (and rewarding) to see the professional photos from our clients’ events. Before showing you some of this season’s jaw-droppingly beautiful weddings, we’ll first share the design boards behind them so you can get a glimpse at how we take inspiration and make it reality.
