Lake Louise Wedding Planner: Tess + James

Planning an early May wedding in Alberta is always a gamble in terms of weather, but when you’re getting married at one of the most picturesque locations in the country, you really can’t go wrong! Driving to The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, the roads were clear and the sky was blue. As we approached this renowned retreat in the Rockies, the snow began to fall and we woke up the next morning to the most gorgeous view – it felt like we were inside a snow globe peering out!

Tess + James’ vision for their mountain destination wedding was to host an intimate celebration full of warmth and romance. With nods of Tuscan influence, organic greenery and an abundance of lush florals covered the tables, while gold candelabras added formality and elegance to the beautiful Victoria ballroom. A dramatic king’s table set in front of the stone fireplace hosted the 14-person wedding party.

As always, Kelly Redinger did an incredible job capturing the day!

Inspiration to Reality: Tess + James

Tess + James’ vision for their Lake Louise destination wedding was an intimate celebration full of warmth and romance. With nods of Tuscan influence, an abundance of lush, organic florals in tones of blush, pink, peach and crimson covered the tables, while gold candelabras and candlesticks added formality and glamour to the elegant Victoria Ballroom.

Los Cabos Wedding Planner: Kim + Pierre

“You can’t stop love.” It’s a phrase Kim + Pierre have used to describe their serendipitous relationship over the years, and again proved to be so true for their Los Cabos destination wedding.

Long story short: about a week and a half before the wedding was to take place in beautiful Cabo, we had to move up the date to 4 days earlier! A change in Pierre’s work schedule meant that he could only be in Cabo for 24 hours (say what!?) – but Kim + Pierre took it all in stride and knew that the most important outcome of the entire trip was that they would be husband and wife.

Everything had to be moved- the venue, hair, makeup, transportation, décor, flowers. We were very lucky that all our wonderful suppliers were so accommodating and able to make the new date work. The experience reiterated why Cabo is one of our favourite spots for destination weddings.

And so the whirlwind wedding began, first with a surprise legal ceremony at the Edmonton International Airport in the early hours of the morning! Then we boarded the plane with the newlyweds and made our way to Cabo, landing mid-afternoon. The group was transported to our incredible resort – Secrets Puerto Los Cabos – and I took off to the wedding venue while the ladies began hair and makeup.

The symbolic ceremony and reception were both held at Sunset Da Mona Lisa – rated one of the Top 5 Coolest Restaurants in the World! I was in awe of the view and have to share this photo I took during setup at sunset – absolutely breathtaking!

FullSizeRenderIt was a busy and action-packed day, but certainly the most memorable wedding experience I’ve had to date. Kim + Pierre’s friends and family were so welcoming and it was so much fun to share this adventure with them.

Kim + Pierre’s incredible wedding story was featured in The Edmonton Journal, and photographer Kelly Redinger does a beautiful job sharing this wedding on his blog.

Bouquet Inspiration: Organic

The  last of our bouquet inspiration series features gorgeous organic bouquets perfect for the bride who desires a rustic or outdoorsy element to her wedding day style.

Organic bouquets are full of texture and mixed elements. Think beyond floral – succulents, cotton, berries, scabiosa pods and fiddleheads add so much dimension and movement. Earthy tones give the bouquet a rustic feel, while soft pastels convey whimsy and romance.

Be sure to check out more inspiration from earlier in this series: Classic White Bouquets, Bright + Bold Bouquets, Romantic Bouquets.

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Tina + John

WedLuxe Magazine Canada Luxury WeddingsTina + John’s gorgeous Art Gallery of Alberta wedding was recently featured on WedLuxe.com – home of Canada’s luxury wedding magazine.

The day began with an intimate candlelight ceremony in the AGA’s Ledcor Theatre, followed by a cocktail reception on the 3rd floor terrace. The couple’s signature drink, aptly named “Evening Love Affair,” was served with personalized cocktail napkins. Delicious sweets accompanied their four-tier wedding cake, all black & white in theme with pink ombré rose petals overflowing on the table.

The menu by Zinc Catering was exquisite! Guests were given a choice of four entrées which were served with the couple’s favourite dish – truffle macaroni & cheese – as a side. Dessert included anise poached pears with caramel ginger sauce and frangelico crème brûlée.

Tina + John kept their guests entertained all night – from amazing music for the dancing crowd to take-home caricature drawings to a drool-worthy late night snack from Drift Food Truck – there was something for everyone! These two have so much fun together and this shines through in Kelly Redinger’s beautiful photography shown below.

In the Limelight: faBLOOMosity

Ranunculus. Dianthus. Phalaenopsis. Hyacinth…huh?

Flowers may have tough names to pronounce, but their ability to add beauty and life to a wedding is something that everyone understands. Today’s In the Limelight feature is on faBLOOMosity – a new Edmonton flower shop located in downtown’s revitalized Mercer Building. The shop may be new, but the talent behind it has years of experience.

Meet Janine Sebastian. From designing boutonnieres that look more like art than the eyesore your prom date wore, to centrepieces that defy gravity, Janine and her faBLOOMosity team are leaders in the Edmonton floral market and they push boundaries left, right and centre. My favourite thing about working with Janine is her passion and energy – no one will get you more excited about your wedding flowers! Read on to learn what sets faBLOOMosity apart.

Tell us about faBLOOMosity:

At faBLOOMosity we specialize in custom floral designs for everyday arrangements, weddings, and special/corporate events. Each client is unique, as is each design created specifically for them. What we do is an art form in which we turn the ordinary into extraordinary, changing the way people view florists and floral design as a whole.

What is your personal experience in the floral industry?

I’ve worked in floral design for the past 10+ years which has allowed me the opportunity to adapt and build my own style and presence within the industry. Gearing myself towards the unexpected and more modern approach has set me apart within Edmonton as a unique and ‘out of the box’ designer. A fan of anything that is “not popular”, I strive to establish new trends and push my clients, and ultimately, myself to take risks and be adventurous.

What makes faBLOOMosity different? How do you provide a distinct wedding experience?

  • First and foremost, we are non-believers in packaged wedding florals. What sets us apart is our ability to build off of our clients’ unique personalities, individual style, likes and dislikes, and anything else they’re passionate about to ensure that we truly capture the essence of what it is they are looking for and expecting from us.
  • Secondly, we are not afraid to voice our opinions or concerns, as well as love or hates, to our brides and grooms. Honesty is the best policy, and we expect pure honesty out of them and in turn provide that same feedback to the clients.
  • Lastly, our amazing team of FAB Florists make for an inviting atmosphere in the shop, and provide our clients with perfection each time. With the team we have in place, nothing is impossible and everything is achievable.

What are some of the upcoming floral trends that you’re excited about?

  • One design that I have been working on implementing into the Edmonton market for over a year now is ombré. I was thrilled when a few past clients allowed me to design their wedding with this, and I hope to continue it forward on a larger scale!
  • As well, I am a huge advocate for large, structural focal pieces. It really does take your dollar far by creating one over the top focus for your guests to awe over.
  • Another way of creating a ‘wow’ factor is by having a more elaborate backdrop behind your head table. Out are the days of boring white voile, making room for things like: texture, LED lighting, en masse florals, etc. Be creative and make a bold statement.
  •  am also extremely excited about the introduction of the color mint into wedding designs! It offers a fresh, new vibe and carries a youthful feeling.
  • Finally, I am happy to be introducing more elaborate and detailed bouquet handles into the wedding season. Mirrored bands, romantic textures, dramatic graphic prints, and natural elements such as birch are just a few examples of things to watch for from me!

What do you like most about working with brides and grooms?

The sheer excitement and love that fills the room when working with the couples is the most enjoyable part for me. It is SO much easier to build off of that energy. It really drives everything forward and sets the pace for the entire process. Working in that environment truly has the ability to keep me smiling and enjoying my career day in and day out. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of the most important day of someone’s life?

What are your top tips for brides and grooms when considering their wedding flowers?

Don’t be afraid to try something different, and do not allow yourself to get caught up in the opinions of others around you. It is your day – have what YOU want. All too often I see brides give in to what their mother, or sister, or friend, or whoever wants them to have. Everyone has an opinion but remember that it is your opinion that matters the most and it is your voice that I listen to when designing for you. Stick strong to your gut feelings and your vision, and I promise that it will be exactly what you have always dreamed it to be.
