Finding the Perfect Wedding Gown

One of the most exciting elements of planning your wedding is finding the dress of your dreams. Here in Edmonton, the wedding dress scene has blossomed, and we’re fortunate to have some stylish and savvy local boutiques at our fingertips. Before you get started, here are a few tips to make the most of your gown shopping experience:

1. Shop early. Gowns can take 6 to 8 months to order; the alteration process can take up to 2 months. Keep these timeline in mind and give yourself plenty of time before your wedding day to avoid stress and costly rush charges.
2. Choose your crew wisely. Too many opinions can be overwhelming and may confuse the selection process. Bring just a few of your besties or family members who will support you and your wedding vision.
3. Be open minded. Don’t be afraid to surprise yourself! You might fall in love with a dress that you didn’t expect to like on the hangar.
4. Set a budget. Establish a realistic budget and stick to it. It’s tempting to try on gowns that are outside of your budget but the can lead to some major disappointment.

Boutiques for Brides and Maids

Delica Bridal | Location: #108, 2951 Ellwood Drive
Delica Bridal is a sister-owned boutique for brides who want a no-fuss, relaxed experience. Known for their warm and inviting service, Delica carries a unique collection of curated gowns form exclusive and emerging designers, making it a haven for brides (and bridesmaids) who are looking for something different. Most notably, they carry the coveted Hayley Paige, Lazaro and Truvelle lines.

Novelle Bridal Shop | Location: 10553 124 Street
Located on Edmonton’s trendy 124th Street, Novelle Bridal’s gorgeous 2-storey shop features floor-to-ceiling windows and a loft dedicated to bridesmaid dresses. Personal attention is their mantra – book a complimentary one hour session, or upgrade to a Couture Consultation for an extended appointment time complete with sparkling juice and sweet treats for your entourage. Novelle now carries the coveted Berta bridal line.

Pure Bridal | Location: 11267 170 Street
Pure Bridal is an intimate bridal shop located in west Edmonton. Since their opening in 2006, they have helped thousands of brides find “the one” with exclusive and personalized service. The over-sized private change rooms offer plenty of space, providing a serene and relaxed environment. Along with carrying both bridal and bridesmaid gowns, Pure Bridal can complete your ensemble with custom made veils and jewelry.

The Bridal Boutique | Location: 10935 120 Street (New Location!)
With Lillian Bowedring and her three daughters at the helm, The Bridal Boutique has taken the Alberta wedding industry by storm with locations in both Edmonton and Calgary. Now located in the trendy Holland Plaza, they carry a stylish collection of bridal and bridesmaid gowns in all budgets, including designers Essence of Australia, Pronovias and Martin Liana.

It’s hard to believe it has almost been one year since Melanie + Terry’s wedding! We had to hold off sharing until the Fall / Winter 2017 issue of Blush Magazine was released, as their gorgeous day is one of the real weddings featured in the current issue.

When we first started working with Melanie + Terry to plan their early September wedding at The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, we chatted about what elements of the wedding were most important to them. Their responses? To serve excellent food, for there to be gorgeous décor and flowers, and to have an amazing live band for the party!

The ceremony was held in the stunning Wedgwood Room, and featured a statement altar canopy dripping in florals. We kept the ceremony design soft and muted in whites, blush and lavender, using the beautiful white round-back Grace chairs to complement the ballroom’s shape.

The reception design carried through the ceremony’s timeless elegance, but we added a dramatic punch of colour in tones of berries, pinks, purples and greens. This venture into a more bold palette added an element of surprise and ‘wow factor’ when guests joined the newlyweds for the reception. The tables were luxuriously layered with champagnes and golds. Each place setting was adorned with gold rimmed dishware, gold flatware, and ornate crystal wine goblets. The tall, lush floral centrepieces were elevated on mirrored boxes, and blooms and fruit spilled onto the tables accented with romantic candlelight.

Famous Players Band joined us from Vancouver to lead the party – they were incredible! The band alternated sets with Harman B, ensuring the dance floor was packed all night!

Terry wrote a poem and read it to Melanie as part of his speech at the reception. It was so beautiful and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. This highlight video by A Love Story uses the poem as the base of the video and it turned out beautifully! It’s an absolute must-watch.

Katherine + Stephan spent their entire wedding day smiling – which is exactly how it should be. These two have an infectious zest for life, and this celebratory atmosphere was present throughout the festivities from start to finish.

Once they were all dressed up and looking incredible, Katherine + Stephan met up at Fort Edmonton Park for a ‘first look‘, followed by photos with their awesome wedding party. The rain held off for a late afternoon ceremony on the Hangar lawn. Guests then enjoyed refreshments and lawn games including bean bag toss and mini golf.

The evening continued inside the Hangar, where over 200 guests celebrated with delicious food, drinks, toasts, an ice cream dessert bar, and of course – dancing! Kelsy Nielson did a gorgeous job capturing the special moments of the day. Enjoy this sneak peek!

Timeless, elegant and full of luxe details, Desiree and Al’s summer wedding took place at two of our favourite Edmonton venues. The classically beautiful ceremony was held in Hotel Macdonald’s Wedgwood Room, and the contemporary Art Gallery of Alberta set the stage for the evening festivities. Fittingly, Desiree wore two dazzling Pnina Tornai dresses: a formal ballgown for the ceremony and a fitted evening gown for the reception.

These two are so sweet and caring, and the entire day was filled with love radiating from their wedding party, families and friends (who sure know how to party)!

DQ Studios captured the day beautifully, and A Love Story put together this awesome highlight film of the day.

Chock full of personal details and unique touches, it’s no surprise that Alexis + Tom’s charming summer wedding was featured in the latest issue of Blush Magazine.

The entire celebration was held at Christ Church – a beautiful 1920s church in the heart of downtown Edmonton that looks like it belongs in Europe! An intimate late afternoon ceremony flowed right into an outdoor cocktail hour complete with delicious appetizers, lawn games and an assortment of refreshing drinks such as cucumber water and strawberry lemonade. 

At the reception guests were treated to a decadent family style dinner catered by Culina and an illustrious dessert table full of cakes and pies made with love by family members.

Her keen eye and love for bicycles made Blake Loates the perfect fit to photograph this wedding! Enjoy a glimpse of Alexis + Tom’s big day below.

Catherine + Neal’s Royal Mayfair Golf Club wedding was recently featured in Edmonton’s own Bridal Fantasy Magazine. 

They chose to incorporate traditions from both of their backgrounds. Neal and his groomsmen wore Scottish kilts and his grandmother gave a blessing in Gaelic before dinner. To represent Catherine’s Polish side, perogies and cabbage rolls were served at the rehearsal dinner and the marriage commissioner said a few words in Polish before the ceremony began. A very unique element of the ceremony was a Celtic handfasting using the official tartans of Alberta and Nova Scotia, representing the bride and groom’s places of birth.

Their favourite moment of the day? “Seeing each other for the first time was both awesome and hilarious. The anticipation and excitement is so evident in the photos. Our other favourite part was listening to everyone’s speeches. Each of them was so heartfelt and funny – we felt very special.”
