The bridal bouquet is a very important element of your wedding. You’ll be photographed with it for much of the day – it absolutely must reflect your wedding style AND look great with your gown and accessories! In the name of inspiration, we’re flooding the blog with flowers and featuring a series on different styles of beautiful bouquets!

First up – Classic White. You can rarely go wrong with an all-white/cream bouquet – it’s perfect for the bride who desires an elegant, timeless and sophisticated look on her wedding day. Soft flowers with high petal counts like roses and ranunculus scream romance, while a bouquet composed of blooms with stronger lines and edges such as orchids or calla lilies are a great choice for the more contemporary bride. Adding bits of peach, champagne or blush can give the bouquet more dimension and texture, and often conveys a vintage undertone.

The next two examples offer a twist on tradition – we used homogeneous blooms in each bridesmaid bouquet for a contemporary yet timeless look.

Sandy + Steve wanted their winter wedding to be dramatic, romantic, elegant and bold. We let the stunning glass ceilings at The Enjoy Centre serve as inspiration for the design, allowing the deep blue night sky to shine through and enhancing it with additional blue lighting around the perimeter of the space. White and gold textured lighting was used to breakup the blue, mimicking twinkling stars. Metallic elements were carried throughout the design to ensure the sparkle of winter was present, while rich tones of cranberry and red florals brought vibrancy and life to the tables. A lot goes into the wedding design process at JBW. We begin by determining a bride and groom’s wedding style – the look they envision, the atmosphere and feelings they want their event to evoke, the level of formality, etc. We then create visual inspiration boards and detailed budgets. Once we’re all on the same page we execute, securing rental and décor items, collaborating with a florist to design centrepieces and bouquets, and working with a stationer to create the couple’s invitations and reception stationery to perfectly reflect their wedding style.

We’re excited to share more of our 2013 weddings along with the design boards behind them so you can get a glimpse at how we take inspiration and make it reality.

We had the pleasure of working with Melissa and Bassil to plan their Fairmont Hotel Macdonald Edmonton wedding while they were living in Toronto. Melissa knew she wanted a wedding with Art Deco influence and a nod to The Great Gatbsy. A classic palette of navy, silver and white combined with crystal and pewter accents conveyed the formality needed to perfectly reflect the theme.

Andrea + Tom had a beautiful winter wedding back in February – in fact, they were our first 2013 couple to tie the knot! They wanted their Fairmont Hotel Macdonald wedding to feel more like a stylish party than a formal, over-the-top event. Designing around a neutral palette of ivory, taupe, grey and pops of metallic, together we achieved an event that exuded warmth and elegance with a touch of rustic charm. Wedding season hasn’t quite begun for JBW, but we still have some gorgeous soirées to share from 2012!

Today’s Inspiration to Reality post features a fresh, romantic summertime wedding in the mountains at one of my favourite venues: The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Both originally from a small Alberta town, Wendy + Trevor wanted their wedding to feel comfortable and welcoming while still exuding the elegance of the Lodge. The soft pink, cream and green palette was blended with homespun touches to create the perfect wedding day for this super sweet couple.
