Bouquet Inspiration: Bright + Bold
Part 2 of our bouquet inspiration series – we’re featuring bright and bold bouquets full of colour! Bold bouquets really pop against a white or cream wedding dress.
Keep it all one colour for a more classic look, or play with various shades of a colour for more dimension and texture. To make an even bigger statement, pair complementary colours such as fuchsia and kelly green or violet and tangerine.
Here’s a collection of JBW brides who have chosen to go with bright and bold bouquets on their wedding day!

Bouquet Inspiration: Classic White
The bridal bouquet is a very important element of your wedding. You’ll be photographed with it for much of the day – it absolutely must reflect your wedding style AND look great with your gown and accessories! In the name of inspiration, we’re flooding the blog with flowers and featuring a series on different styles of beautiful bouquets!

First up – Classic White. You can rarely go wrong with an all-white/cream bouquet – it’s perfect for the bride who desires an elegant, timeless and sophisticated look on her wedding day. Soft flowers with high petal counts like roses and ranunculus scream romance, while a bouquet composed of blooms with stronger lines and edges such as orchids or calla lilies are a great choice for the more contemporary bride. Adding bits of peach, champagne or blush can give the bouquet more dimension and texture, and often conveys a vintage undertone.

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Jenny + Hon
Jenny + Hon’s gorgeous Oasis Centre Edmonton wedding is featured in the Spring/Summer 2014 issue of Blush Magazine. From a sumptuous Vera Wang gown to a custom DIY chalkboard photo booth backdrop, every detail pointed to romance.
The reception featured a traditional Chinese Lion Dance, an expansive sweet table by LOVEInc. Dessert Styling, and a very special signature drink: DougieDog Root Beer brewed by one of Jenny’s family members in Vancouver. The phenomenal family style menu was designed by Culina Catering and featured three types of appetizers, coconut poppy seed salad with berries, edam cheese and candied walnuts, pork con leche and chipotle roasted garlic braised bison short ribs.
Sharon Litchfield was the perfect photographer to capture their day – check out more of this beautiful wedding on Sharon’s blog and be sure to pickup your copy of Blush to read about Jenny + Hon’s love story!

Lake Louise Wedding Planner: Jenny + James
It’s the middle of the summer and the last thing you want to do is think about snow. But today’s Real Wedding post will make you want to welcome winter with open arms!
There’s something about The Chateau Lake Louise that makes it such a special place to visit. There’s an atmosphere of serenity like you’re removed from the busyness of the everyday. Add snow-capped mountains and crisp blue sky and it’s winter wedding perfection!
Jenny + James chose to get married a few days after Christmas so that visiting family members from the UK could be in attendance at this special occasion. Both their ceremony and reception were held in the Victoria Ballroom, where a warm stone fireplace served as the backdrop for their nuptials while beautiful sounds of cello and violin filled the room.
Their gorgeous wedding party, outfitted in timeless black and white, braved the chilly air for picturesque views prior to returning to the ballroom for cocktails. The reception design was classic with a dash of whimsy. Gold chiavari chairs, pewter frames, silver julep vases and gold charger plates developed the mixed metallic palette, adding to the elegance of the space. The wedding cake design was based on Jenny’s grandparents’ cake and a photo of the original was placed on the cake table along with it.
Sharon Litchfield never ceases to impress with her stunning photography. Enjoy Jenny + James’ love story from behind her lens…
Jenny + James: It was such a pleasure to work with you and your wonderful families. Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness!

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Krista + Scott
Krista + Scott are such a fun couple and we had a blast together at planning meetings. They knew they wanted a modern design for their wedding, and they weren’t afraid of incorporating colour. After some initial discussions we decided on a “Modern Garden” concept that would brighten a classic black & white palette with pops of fuchsia pink flowers and vibrant green boxwood hedges and orbs.
The ceremony was held in the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Ledcor Theatre where boxwood hedges, floating candles, gladiolas and dendrobium orchids created a gorgeous backdrop for the vows. After taking photos with their families and wedding party, Krista + Scott joined their guests for dinner and dancing at Matrix Hotel. The entire ballroom was lit in fuchsia and purple, and contemporary furniture created a lounge space near the dance floor.
Krista + Scott’s families LOVE candy, so they decided a candy table was a must at their reception. Working with LOVEinc Dessert Styling we designed a fun pink and green sweet spread full of the couple’s favourites. Stationery by Pinkpolka Wedding Design pulled everything together.
Enjoy these stunning images by Sharon Litchfield Photography!
Krista + Scott: It was such a pleasure working with you to create this amazing celebration of your love. Wishing you a blissful marriage and continued success in your careers!

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Sabrina + Fil
Sabrina + Fil’s July wedding day began with a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony in honour of Sabrina’s heritage. Then the wedding party travelled to The Westin Edmonton, where both the wedding ceremony and reception were held. Sabrina was perfectly styled in Vera Wang, Jimmy Choo and Elsa Corsi jewelry. Both her parents walked her down the aisle to her handsome groom, and the couple exchanged vows in front of the family and friends that would support them throughout their marriage.
The reception started with a bang as the traditional Lion Dance was performed before guests indulged in a delicious 4-course meal. Sabrina put a lot of effort into selecting the perfect sweets for the candy table and her hard work paid off – the table was a huge hit (and that’s an understatement)!
I love the thought and creativity Sabrina + Fil put into their photo session with Sharon Litchfield. They used confetti and sparklers as props and the images turned out amazing, as is the case whenever you have Sharon behind the lens. Enjoy a selection of our favourites below!
Sabrina + Fil: It was an absolute pleasure working with you both on your beautiful wedding day! Wishing you a lifetime of happiness together.

Top Ten Wedding MC Tips
Being the MC at a wedding is a great honour but it can also be a bit scary. Here are some tips to help you prepare for this special role.
Top 10 Wedding MC Tips
- Prepare well in advance so you aren’t in a panic the week of the wedding. Type your script and read it back to yourself in the mirror to make sure it flows.
- Know the reception itinerary (speak to the bride and groom or the wedding planner to get this in advance). The best MCs keep things running smoothly and on time.
- Inform the wedding planner about any special touches or A/V requirements in advance.
- Arrive at the reception early to do a sound check. Speak clearly into the mic while holding it approximately 15 cm away from your mouth.
- Keep your comments and stories short and sweet.
- Keep guests informed throughout the evening. Give them 10-15 minute warnings before important events occur (eg. dinner, speeches, dance, cake cutting).
- Ensure the caterer / servers are aware when you are beginning speeches so that they don’t disrupt guests by clearing tables.
- When introducing speakers, mention something personal about them and/or about their relationship to the bride and groom. Learn how to pronounce their names before the wedding.
- Don’t have too many drinks before and during dinner. Even though you may be nervous, keeping a clear head is important.
- Avoid embarrassing subjects and information that can’t be taken back. If you’re unsure about a joke or topic always check with the bride and groom, close family members or the wedding planner.
Good luck – you’ll do great!
