Whitewood Barn Edmonton Wedding Planner: Danielle + Jason
Set in the charming Alberta countryside, Danielle and Jason’s wedding was held on a warm summer day at The Whitewood Barn just outside of Edmonton.
After a ‘first look’ and taking photos with their wedding party, they exchanged rings and vows in a quaint clearing of pine trees adorned with café lights and rustic wooden benches. Guitarist Jeff Ramsey serenaded guests while they sipped bubbly from a boxwood champagne wall, and enjoyed tasty hors d’oeuvres by Stir Catering. After dinner, guests danced the night away under string lights and country stars.

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Jessie + Mat
Jessie + Mat wanted to do something a bit different to celebrate their wedding. Rather than a formal seated dinner, they decided to throw a cocktail reception style event with food stations and plenty of outdoor space for their guests to enjoy Edmonton’s beautiful summer.
Fort Edmonton Park’s Blatchford Hangar was the perfect venue to host this unique soirée, as it offered us the ability to hold an outdoor ceremony that transitioned directly into cocktails and lawn games, with plenty of space for the youthful guest list to run around.
Jessie’s vision for the wedding design was an ethereal garden party with lots of lush greenery, vibrant tones of pinks and gold accents. Mixed styles of seating ensured party-goers could mingle and experience various areas of the Hangar. This included vintage lounge furniture, cruiser tables with stools, round dining tables and tall cocktail tables. Two stages – one for the band, the other for the wooden DJ booth – flanked a centre dance floor with a jaw-dropping greenery chandelier dripping in plumosa and ferns.
Food stations were themed around summer BBQ-style comfort foods including gourmet potato salad, a perogy station with all the fixins’, a prime rib slider station, and a made-to-order pasta action station.
The Counterfitz Band and DJ Twix alternated sets throughout the night, keeping all ages entertained and on the dance floor until the early morning. The newlyweds served their guests a late night snack of hot dogs from the infamous Viking Meats (Jessie’s hometown), alongside a delicious dessert table with treats from The Art of Cake.

Kickinghorse Winter Wedding: Sarah + Andrew
Sarah + Andrew decided on a winter destination wedding with an intimate guest list of their loved ones. And if you’re going to get married in the winter, what’s more romantic than getting married on top of a snow-covered mountain?!
Kickinghorse Resort in Golden, B.C. was the perfect setting to host their nuptials. There are numerous accommodation options at the base of the resort, so you can basically hop on a lift within minutes outside your door. When it came time for the wedding, guests did just that! In the late afternoon, they took the gondola up to Eagle’s Eye Restaurant where Sarah + Andrew exchanged vows in front of a beautiful stone fireplace and their beloved pup, Bella.
This wedding was such an honour to be a part of as I’ve known Andrew and his entire family since I was 8. It was incredible to see him find the love of his life in Sarah, and I must say he’s a very lucky man! These gorgeous images by Sharon Litchfield capture the essence of the weekend so well – enjoy this peek into Sarah + Andrew’s love story.

Victoria Wedding Planner: Nikki + David
Nikki + David’s wedding was held at Hatley Castle in Victoria, B.C., which is where many famous movies and TV shows have been filmed, including X-Men and Deadpool. The property and gardens are absolutely stunning – it was truly a fairytale setting.
This wedding was full of unique and personal details stemming from our very creative Bride. One big “first” for us was the feline flower girl. “Catsie” travelled all the way from Edmonton to Victoria to star as Nikki + Dav’s flower girl. Not only did she wear a dress, but she was pushed down the aisle by the Ring Bearer in a flower-covered pram!
After the ceremony guests enjoyed refreshments and were able to walk around and take in the gardens. There were tours of the castle offered, lawn games, and a cocktail reception on the terrace complete with a live jazz band, vintage lounge seating and a cigar bar.
Nikki designed all the stationery herself, including fan programs for the ceremony and escort cards hung from mini bottles of La Marca Prosecco which doubled as guest favours. A 5-tier cheese wheel cake adorned with grapes and figs took the place of a traditional wedding cake.

Finding the Perfect Wedding Gown
One of the most exciting elements of planning your wedding is finding the dress of your dreams. Here in Edmonton, the wedding dress scene has blossomed, and we’re fortunate to have some stylish and savvy local boutiques at our fingertips. Before you get started, here are a few tips to make the most of your gown shopping experience:
- Shop early. Gowns can take 6 to 8 months to order; the alteration process can take up to 2 months. Keep these timeline in mind and give yourself plenty of time before your wedding day to avoid stress and costly rush charges.
- Choose your crew wisely. Too many opinions can be overwhelming and may confuse the selection process. Bring just a few of your besties or family members who will support you and your wedding vision.
- Be open minded. Don’t be afraid to surprise yourself! You might fall in love with a dress that you didn’t expect to like on the hangar.
- Set a budget. Establish a realistic budget and stick to it. It’s tempting to try on gowns that are outside of your budget but the can lead to some major disappointment.

Jamaica Destination Wedding Planner: Cindy + Matthew
Destination weddings are a welcome break during our long Canadian winters. Earlier this year we had the honour of travelling to Jamaica with an intimate group of Cindy and Matt’s closest friends and family members.
We suggested holding the wedding festivities off-resort, as this is a great opportunity for guests to see a new part of the island. It also makes the wedding day feel more like a special experience when you travel to a different venue for the wedding day, rather than simply walking down to the beach of the resort.
The historic Rose Hall property was the perfect choice. The ceremony was held on the golf course near the water at Ocean’s Edge. It was a bit windy that day, so perhaps that’s why everyone’s eyes were watering – but more likely it was due to the incredible connection that Cindy and Matt share, which was evident from the moment they saw one another at the altar and pledged their lives to each other.
After the ceremony guests were transported a short distance up to the top of the Rose Hall property where the reception was held. Built in the 1770s, the famous Rose Hall Great House is a mansion in Jamaican Georgian style set high on the hillside with a panorama view over the coast. Cocktails took place under a 150 year-old ficus tree, and a beautiful clear-span tent housed the rest of the evening’s festivities, including a throwback video dance party!
See more of Cindy + Matt’s wedding in the Autumn/Winter 2016 issue of Blush Magazine, and do not miss their incredible highlight film by A Love Story – it’s such a great testament to why you should invest in a wedding video!

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Sheena + Chad
Hard to believe it’s almost been a year since Sheena + Chad’s wedding. This pretty fête was featured on Style Me Pretty Canada, but we wanted to give it the blog love it deserves on JBW as well!
When Sheena + Chad first came to us to plan and design their big day, the words they used to describe their vision were romantic, timeless, intimate and elegant. Above all, they wanted each guest to feel important – that they had played a special part in their love story.
We lucked out with beautiful weather for the outdoor ceremony at Magrath Mansion – an Edmonton landmark and historic private estate. A beautiful vintage hutch displayed photos of family members who are no longer with us, so their memories would be present at the occasion. Chad wrote his wedding vows on cue cards and each one had a word in large bold letters on the back. All together they read: “I will love you forever.” Such a sweet surprise gesture for his bride!
We transformed the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Manning Hall from a cool, contemporary space into a warm and romantic haven for the reception. Mixing square and round tables with different linen combinations and centrepiece designs added layers of texture and interest. The unique head table backdrop featuring ombré hanging floral stems beautifully framed the bride and groom.
Eternal Reflections captured the gorgeous images below, and A Love Story Cinema created this incredible highlight film of the day.
