Grey and Green Wedding Inspiration Board
We love using shades of grey and silver as neutral anchors in a wedding’s colour palette. When paired with green, a very fresh, clean and modern look is achieved. The organic elements in this inspiration board, such as the birch bark vase and silver sprayed branches, add rustic undertones to the event.
What has inspired you when designing your wedding?

2011 Wedding Trends
2011 is upon us and as many of you are knee-deep into wedding details I’d like to share what we’re seeing for wedding trends this year.
- Honeysuckle is Pantone’s colour of the year and it’s a versatile shade that works with many wedding styles. Pair it with blush and gold to create a romantic, whimsical look or combine with plum and slate for a bold, modern statement.
- You don’t have to be a master-crafter to add thoughtful do-it-yourself (DIY) items to your wedding. The paper napkin ring pictured below serves double duty as a placecard and adds a stylish, personal touch to table décor. Another fun project – gather your bridal party to help assemble welcome baskets for out-of-town guests.
- Ruffles and romance are all over the runway! Brides are straying from the classic white strapless gown and opting for ‘wow’ factor details.
- One-of-a-kind jewelry is a wonderful way to express your personal style on your wedding day. The earrings pictured below are hand-crafted by local Edmonton designer Cara Cotter (So Pretty Jewelry). Her designs are available online and at Coup Garment Boutique.
- From classic shades to metallics and bold colours, glam heels never go out of style!
- You’ll be holding your bouquet for most of your big day – make sure it’s nothing less than spectacular! A large, lush bouquet with carefully considered adornments is the perfect accessory to complete your bridal look.
- A signature Jennifer Lopez look, Hilary Duff ignited the high bun bridal hair trend with her vows to NHL star Mike Comrie last summer.
- Unique stationary is a great way to set your wedding apart. Chunky table numbers and creative save-the-dates are all the rage (check out the gorgeous coasters pictured below!). We’re also seeing a return to classic calligraphy and letterpress invitations.
What wedding trends, if any, are you including in your wedding plans?

The Bachelorette: Wedding Inspiration Board
I love love. I love reality television. These passions translate into the only show I watch religiously:
For those of you also obsessed with The Bachelorette and Bachelor series, I’m sure your eyes were glued to your television screens last night to find out who Ali would choose: Chris or Roberto. In the end, Ali + Roberto’s love connection was just too strong for the sweet Cape Cod landscaper to compete with, and Chris was sent home before the final rose ceremony.
To celebrate Ali + Roberto’s engagement, here’s a wedding board inspired by Ali’s favourite colour – yellow – and Roberto’s love of baseball:
Now we just have to wait and see if Ali + Roberto can make it to their wedding day…here’s hoping they have better luck than Jake + Vienna!

Four Weddings Inspiration Board
Thanks for your wonderful participation in the Four Weddings series over the last month! This was a lot of fun, and I hope you’re excited to see the final Inspiration Board that I put together based on your votes.
The theme for this board started to develop after the first post, Four Dresses, where you voted for the stunning Sunday Rose gown by Monique Lhuillier. The soft, ruffled roses give the gown a romantic, whimsical feel. Next up was Four Bouquets, and the top pick was a bouquet of pretty pink and peach peonies. Colour palette – check!
Moving on to Four Invitations…now this was a split vote so I decided to pick my fave (#1). This design by Alee & Press is modern and minimalist, but I love the way the abstract scribbles mimic the roses in our gown and the ruffles of our peony bouquet. And finally, Four Cakes. You loved the classic four-tiered beauty by Cake Girls. The pink bows and vintage brooches go perfectly with our theme!
To round out the Inspiration Board I added some splashes of gold, romantic centrepieces and a pair of petal pink Christian Louboutin pumps.
Thanks again for participating!

Spring Green Inspiration Board
Spring is here! Well, at least the calendar says it is…as Canadians, we know not to get too excited just yet. But who’s saying we can’t still dream about spring weddings!? There’s something about the colour green that makes me feel happy and energized…

A Getty-Inspired Wedding
I spent the last week in Los Angeles and had the opportunity to visit The Getty Center – one of two J. Paul Getty Museums in the L.A. area. The Center itself is a work of art, with stunning architecture by Richard Meier, breathtaking gardens and amazing panoramic views. Always with weddings on my mind, I was inspired to create a “Getty Wedding” board based on a few photos I took while I was there:
A Getty Wedding: geometric lines, manzanita branches, touches of lavender, a masterpiece gown and California succulents.
Enjoy the weekend!

An Avatar Wedding
Love it or hate it, James Cameron’s Avatar is the topic of more water cooler convos than we’d all care to admit. I’m usually not a fan of sci-fi flicks, but I have to admit – I really enjoyed it!
A sucker for romance, my favourite part was definitely the love story…which got me thinking…what would an Avatar wedding look like!? I know, it sounds ridiculous, but here’s my take on a Neytiri and Jake Sully union:
Neytiri would look stunning in a nature-inspired Jorge Terra wedding gown, complete with gold Anna Sui gladiators and a beautiful maang tikka on her forehead. She’d carry a bouquet of fresh tropical flowers to meet Jake at the altar of their quaint ceremony in the forest, and their reception would be filled with crystal trees representing the sacred Tree of Souls. Now as for entertainment…you guessed it – a special appearance by the Blue Man Group! 😉

Winter Wedding Inspiration Board
Winter weddings in our Canadian climate are often dismissed, but I’d encourage you to consider one for your soiree. Having an off-season wedding can come with a lot of perks – discounted rates from vendors, enthusiastic guests who are happy to attend a wedding outside of the busy summer season and best of all, it’s the perfect time to escape on your hot-weather honeymoon!
Today’s winter wedding inspiration board is an icy blue, pewter and white palette warmed up by the twinkle of candlelight, delicious comfort foods and a stylish faux-fur wrap. Enjoy!
