“You can’t stop love.” It’s a phrase Kim + Pierre have used to describe their serendipitous relationship over the years, and again proved to be so true for their Los Cabos destination wedding.

Long story short: about a week and a half before the wedding was to take place in beautiful Cabo, we had to move up the date to 4 days earlier! A change in Pierre’s work schedule meant that he could only be in Cabo for 24 hours (say what!?) – but Kim + Pierre took it all in stride and knew that the most important outcome of the entire trip was that they would be husband and wife.

Everything had to be moved- the venue, hair, makeup, transportation, décor, flowers. We were very lucky that all our wonderful suppliers were so accommodating and able to make the new date work. The experience reiterated why Cabo is one of our favourite spots for destination weddings.

And so the whirlwind wedding began, first with a surprise legal ceremony at the Edmonton International Airport in the early hours of the morning! Then we boarded the plane with the newlyweds and made our way to Cabo, landing mid-afternoon. The group was transported to our incredible resort – Secrets Puerto Los Cabos – and I took off to the wedding venue while the ladies began hair and makeup.

The symbolic ceremony and reception were both held at Sunset Da Mona Lisa – rated one of the Top 5 Coolest Restaurants in the World! I was in awe of the view and have to share this photo I took during setup at sunset – absolutely breathtaking!

After a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Parish, Julie + Kyle’s guests made their way to Fort Edmonton Park where the Hangar was staged for the perfect rustic, summer soirée. The big open space allowed kids to run free, while the summer breeze blew in to cool guests down on a warm September day.

Lush floral garlands in warm tones of peach, coral, yellow and blush were swagged down the aisle and hung behind the head table. Antlers, succulents and wooden logs brought the outdoors in, enhancing the organic, natural ambiance of the setting. {More on the inspiration behind this wedding design here!}

We surrounded a large wooden dance floor with cocktail tables, benches and tree stump stools to keep everyone engaged with the party. Once the dance was underway, La Poutine food truck pulled up just outside the Hangar doors to serve the perfect Canadiana late night snack!

A lot goes into the wedding design process at JBW. We begin by determining a bride and groom’s wedding style – the look they envision, the atmosphere they want their event to evoke, the level of formality. We then create visual inspiration boards and detailed design plans. Once we’re all on the same page, we execute, securing rental and décor items, collaborating with a florist to design centrepieces and bouquets, and working with a stationer to create the couple’s invitations and stationery to perfectly reflect their wedding style.

Julie + Kyle wanted their rustic, summer wedding to reflect her carefree spirit and Kyle’s love of the outdoors. We designed the soirée around a soft, muted palette of creams and taupes with whimsical touches of mint and peach. Woodland accents including antlers and birch stumps brought the outdoors in to the Hangar at Fort Edmonton Park.

Melanie + Chris wanted a fun, easy experience for their guests, so they opted to have both ceremony and reception in the same location – Fort Edmonton Park’s Blatchford Air Hangar. The day was warm and sunny which worked perfectly for our outdoor ceremony plans.

The classic black and cream palette provided a neat juxtaposition to the rustic venue. We brought the outdoors in with pops of fresh green throughout the floral arrangements, and the altar was flanked by two gorgeous curly willow and moss “trees” with hanging glass orbs and candles.

As a focal point at the reception, we designed a scrumptious black and white dessert table featuring: apple pies (Chris’ favourite), cupcakes, Oreo cheesecake, chocolate whoopie pies, white chocolate mousse cups, dark chocolate dipped pretzel sticks and more!

Melanie’s father restored a vintage Jaguar for photos which looked amazing parked in front of the Hangar and worked so great as a photo prop! Late lunch came rolling in on a vintage fire truck with a built-in wood fired pizza oven courtesy of Canicus Catering.

JBW is looking to expand our team of Assistant Coordinators. We are seeking professional, enthusiastic people driven to excel in the area of wedding and event planning. This is a casual, part-time position, however opportunities for growth are always available for the right individual(s).

DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Assistant Coordinator provides support to the Lead Wedding Coordinator at wedding rehearsals, ceremonies and receptions.
  • Wedding rehearsals typically occur on Thursday or Friday evenings and are approximately 1 hour in length.
  • Most weddings occur on Saturdays and the average shift length is 7-8 hours.
• Basic décor setup and/or teardown is often required. This may involve physical work that requires light to medium lifting.

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Enthusiastic and eager to learn
• Detail-oriented with exceptional time management skills
• Excellent listener with the ability to follow direction well
• Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Ability to stay calm and composed under pressure

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma
• Completion of / enrollment in a post-secondary program
• Event coordination experience is considered an asset

Sandy + Steve wanted their winter wedding to be dramatic, romantic, elegant and bold. We let the stunning glass ceilings at The Enjoy Centre serve as inspiration for the design, allowing the deep blue night sky to shine through and enhancing it with additional blue lighting around the perimeter of the space. White and gold textured lighting was used to breakup the blue, mimicking twinkling stars. Metallic elements were carried throughout the design to ensure the sparkle of winter was present, while rich tones of cranberry and red florals brought vibrancy and life to the tables. Katrina + David were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony last summer at Edmonton’s Royal Glenora Club. The sun was shining, the skies were blue – you’d never guess there was a torrential downpour just one hour before the ceremony was scheduled to begin! Luckily with some great teamwork we swapped out the chair cushions just in time to seat guests and send Katrina down the aisle looking absolutely angelic.

Just For You Photography was on hand to capture all the beautiful moments of the day, including the couple’s “first look” at The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. After the wedding Katrina + David enjoyed an amazing honeymoon in Italy!
