Wedding Trend: Petit Pairings

Thoughtfully pairing food and/or beverage elements can create a memorable experience for your guests. Often referred to as “Petit Pairings,” these culinary combinations are a great way to personalize your wedding and share your favourite edibles in a unique way.

We love incorporating these unexpected surprises post-ceremony, during cocktails or as a late night snack. Here’s a round-up of our faves:

Wedding Trend: Metallics + Sequins

A trend that has emerged from the Art Deco influence we’re seeing this year is the use of metallics and sequins in wedding details and décor. Touches of sparkle and shine add an element of glamour and opulence to your wedding, enhancing the occasion’s formality and timelessness.

Pairing metallics with a neutral colour palette is glamorous without being overdone. For a more bold look, add a dash of sparkle to a colourful palette. Mixing metallics? Absolutely – we love this! Don’t be afraid to combine various tones such as a brassy gold with rich pewter or rose gold combined with copper.

Here’s some shiny wedding inspiration to brighten your Monday!

Wedding Trend: Art Deco

A noticeable trend this year in design – whether in fashion, interiors or events – is a return to the rich colours, bold geometric shapes and lavish ornamentation of the Art Deco era. We’re even seeing this on the big screen with this weekend’s release of one of the most highly anticipated films of 2013, The Great Gatsby.

Whether you’d like to incorporate a few touches from the era or have a completely Art Deco themed wedding, here’s some eye candy for inspiration!

The Special Event Show 2013

Last month I attended The Special Event Show in Chicago, IL. In addition to numerous educational seminars and networking opportunities (read: nightly social events!), there was a lot of design inspiration which is what I’d like to share with you today.

This first table design is one of my favourites – glamorous yet streamlined with a palette of black, gold and a pop of emerald, Pantone’s colour of the year.

I love the multi-layered centrepieces featured below:

This room by Kehoe Designs (shown below with the exception of the cake) was a highlight for me. Every detail was carefully thought out and the overall result was timeless elegance at its best.

Ombre Floral Table Runner

This ombré floral table runner made a huge statement! It would be perfect for a ‘wow’-factor head table. Below, this colourful floral wall was so much fun to see in person and it smelled amazing!

Pink Ombré Wedding Inspiration Board

Ombré: shaded or graduated in tone.

Last year we saw the ombré trend emerge in hair styles and fashion, and now the wedding scene is following suit with delectable ombré details from flowers and invitations to cakes and gowns.

That being said, some celebrity weddings incorporated ombré nearly a decade ago. Gwen Stefani wore a pink ombré wedding dress in 2002, and Trista and Ryan Sutter followed suit in 2003 when they wed after meeting on The Bachelorette – guests sat on pink ombré chair covers at the beautiful outdoor ceremony in California.

A full-on ombré wedding might be a little much, but incorporating the gradient trend in one or two areas adds beautiful impact. Here’s some pink ombré wedding inspiration to take you into the weekend!

2011 Wedding Trends

2011 is upon us and as many of you are knee-deep into wedding details I’d like to share what we’re seeing for wedding trends this year.

Edmonton Wedding Planner

  • Honeysuckle is Pantone’s colour of the year and it’s a versatile shade that works with many wedding styles. Pair it with blush and gold to create a romantic, whimsical look or combine with plum and slate for a bold, modern statement.
  • You don’t have to be a master-crafter to add thoughtful do-it-yourself (DIY) items to your wedding. The paper napkin ring pictured below serves double duty as a placecard and adds a stylish, personal touch to table décor. Another fun project – gather your bridal party to help assemble welcome baskets for out-of-town guests.
  • Ruffles and romance are all over the runway! Brides are straying from the classic white strapless gown and opting for ‘wow’ factor details.
  • One-of-a-kind jewelry is a wonderful way to express your personal style on your wedding day. The earrings pictured below are hand-crafted by local Edmonton designer Cara Cotter (So Pretty Jewelry). Her designs are available online and at Coup Garment Boutique.
  • From classic shades to metallics and bold colours, glam heels never go out of style!
  • You’ll be holding your bouquet for most of your big day – make sure it’s nothing less than spectacular! A large, lush bouquet with carefully considered adornments is the perfect accessory to complete your bridal look.
  • A signature Jennifer Lopez look, Hilary Duff ignited the high bun bridal hair trend with her vows to NHL star Mike Comrie last summer.
  • Unique stationary is a great way to set your wedding apart. Chunky table numbers and creative save-the-dates are all the rage (check out the gorgeous coasters pictured below!). We’re also seeing a return to classic calligraphy and letterpress invitations.
