JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District Wedding: Vanessa + Jamie
Vanessa and Jamie were married in February 2020, and while we didn’t know it at the time, they were our last “normal” wedding before the world changed. Lucky for everyone in attendance, these newlyweds know how to celebrate!
Not ones for the traditional wedding reception format, Vanessa and Jamie chose to host their celebration with a cocktail party vibe to encourage mingling and dancing. With mixed style seating, creative food and drink stations around the room, Ukrainian dance performances and an incredible party band (The Barkells), they treated their loved ones to a night to remember at Edmonton’s new luxury hotel – JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District.

Aga Khan Gardens is one of the Edmonton area’s newest and most in-demand outdoor wedding ceremony venues. An open amphitheatre nestled within the forest, its mandate is to provide a peaceful gathering space to develop human connections.
It was such a pleasure to provide Wedding Day Management services for Khadija and Dan, who held their ceremony at the Aga Khan Gardens followed by an intimate celebration at Khazana Restaurant. See more of their wedding in Blush Magazine as part of the 2019 Venue of the Year feature.

Kickinghorse Winter Wedding: Sarah + Andrew
Sarah + Andrew decided on a winter destination wedding with an intimate guest list of their loved ones. And if you’re going to get married in the winter, what’s more romantic than getting married on top of a snow-covered mountain?!
Kickinghorse Resort in Golden, B.C. was the perfect setting to host their nuptials. There are numerous accommodation options at the base of the resort, so you can basically hop on a lift within minutes outside your door. When it came time for the wedding, guests did just that! In the late afternoon, they took the gondola up to Eagle’s Eye Restaurant where Sarah + Andrew exchanged vows in front of a beautiful stone fireplace and their beloved pup, Bella.
This wedding was such an honour to be a part of as I’ve known Andrew and his entire family since I was 8. It was incredible to see him find the love of his life in Sarah, and I must say he’s a very lucky man! These gorgeous images by Sharon Litchfield capture the essence of the weekend so well – enjoy this peek into Sarah + Andrew’s love story.

Banff Wedding Coordinator: Kelsey + Dean
This wedding is very special to our team as the beautiful bride was one of our own. Kelsey began working as an intern at JBW and learned quickly, taking on the role as Assistant Wedding Coordinator. She met Dean as part of her own whirlwind love story and moved to Northern Alberta to be with him, sadly leaving the JBW team – but we were so happy for her new adventure! A couple years later we were honoured to be asked to coordinate Kelsey + Dean’s wedding at Buffalo Mountain Lodge in beautiful Banff, Alberta.
Kelsey + Dean chose to do a first look and take their photos before the ceremony. This is a great idea for a destination wedding, as it allows guests to enjoy their day and explore the local attractions. After the most touching and heartfelt ceremony (for real, we were blown away!), guests enjoyed cocktails while we transformed the Wapiti Room for dinner. Ash grey linens and wooden chiavari chairs complemented the rustic setting, while gold mercury accents and soft blooms in creams and blush added romance and elegance.
The stone fireplace was covered in candlelight, and the wedding party sat in front of it at a grand King’s Table – which only partially collapsed due to a faulty table leg! We can laugh about it now as no dresses were harmed during this incident – and what’s a wedding without a funny story to share!?
Before departing, guests were invited to enjoy Sunday brunch with the newlyweds. It was the perfect mountain wedding weekend for the most deserving couple! Enjoy these beautiful images by Nicole Ashley Photography.

Planning Your Wedding: Tip #8
Tip #8: Consider wedding day logistics.
Logistics are the most important consideration for making your wedding day flow seamlessly without any major hiccups. Unfortunately, this is one area that many brides just don’t spend enough time thinking about.
Your wedding is probably the biggest party you will ever host and you’re likely spending a significant amount of money on the event. It only makes sense to hire an experienced professional to oversee it. Most wedding planners offer some form of Wedding Day Management – often referred to as wedding day or wedding month coordination. Having a professional step in 4-8 weeks before your wedding is extremely beneficial – not only for the sanity of you and your fiancé, but it is also a wonderful gift to your parents and bridal party.
If you’re skeptical about whether you need a coordinator, ask yourself who is going to do the following on your wedding day:
- Locate your V.I.P.s and pin on their boutonnieres / corsages
- Cue the wedding party processionals
- Hand tissue to your father before he walks you down the aisle
- Glue your false lashes back on if they come loose
- Fix your bustle if it breaks
- Light all the candles in the room before guests enter
- Cue your grand entrance into the reception
- Liaise with the venue for food and bar service
- Ensure your cards and gifts are put in a safe place once the reception begins
- Brief the M.C. before the wedding to ensure he or she knows what’s required of them
- Orchestrate the bouquet / garter toss, cake cutting, etc.
The above items are just a few examples of how a coordinator works behind the scenes to manage the details of your wedding day while you soak in every wonderful moment.
