In the Limelight with Premiere DJs
Everyone knows that a DJ can make or break a party, so finding the right DJ for your wedding is a very important task that requires careful consideration. Premiere DJs is a modern, hip Edmonton DJ service that promises an unforgettable dance experience. I sat down with co-owner Harman B to chat about weddings, music and how to throw a great party!
Tell us about Premiere DJs.
Premiere DJ’s is Edmonton’s best boutique DJ service! Managed by Harman B & DJ Kwake, Premiere DJs will match you with the best DJ for your wedding.
What makes Premiere DJs different? How do you provide a distinct wedding experience?
A Premiere DJ wedding experience is intimate, interactive and modern. It is a custom sound tailored to the clients’ needs, desires and tastes. We are professional, experienced & talented; we mix live on turntables (records) and we have the best digital sound system and offer modern and elegant lighting too! We consult with our clients in advance and tailor their program to their guests, the venue, the time of the year, etc. We also help our clients consider their floorplan and the energy flow in the room.
Who are the right brides and grooms for your service?
Our couples are hip, modern and outgoing who love to travel, eat out, dance and care about giving their guests an experience they will not forget.
What do you love about DJ-ing weddings?
We love the challenge to please an entire array of guests at a wedding – from Grandma to your farmer Uncle, to ethnic-fusion weddings to groomsmen from Fort McMurray! We work hard to find a common ground and get EVERYONE rocking at the same party.
What is the most unique wedding or wedding component you’ve seen?
We like when couples evolve with the times and try something different, such as having no head table, shortened programs, sweet and simple speeches, etc. These elements showcase the evolution of weddings and are appealing to modern brides and grooms.
What is your top tip for brides and grooms to consider when planning their reception / dance music?
- I would highly suggest for couples to avoid stopping their dance during the night for announcements – keep the party going!
- Position the bar close to the dance floor.
- Don’t spread your guests out amongst the room; the more intimate the space the better the energy flows.

Edmonton Wedding Planner: Sterling + Heng
Sterling + Heng were married on September 11, 2010 – precisely 11 years after they started dating! At the wedding, their family and friends shared the same sentiment: “It’s about time!” We worked together to plan their modern, urban wedding for just less than a year. I truly enjoyed Sterling + Heng’s relaxed demeanours and the strong friendship between these two high school sweethearts is evident.
Sterling and Heng decided they wanted a very unique, very urban ceremony location with a great view of the city. The top level of Windsor Carpark on the University of Alberta Campus was a perfect choice, and we lucked out with a clear day. When considering where to hold the reception, Edmonton’s Matrix Hotel stood out for the couple. It is definitely one of the most modern venues in the city and suited their wedding style perfectly.
Sterling had some awesome ideas in mind for the wedding (after all, she had quite a bit of time to think about it over the years)! Here’s a glimpse of their day captured beautifully (as always) by JDS Photography.
Sterling’s gorgeous bouquet designed by Best Buds (Oliver Square) included cascading white phalaenopsis orchids inset with ivory roses.
Ceremony chairs perfectly placed by the team at Special Event Rentals.
The adorable fairy flower girls and the cutest ring bearer ever – Sterling and Heng’s son. This boy’s going to break some hearts!
Just married!
The handsome groom!
Sterling was a stylishly stunning bride and her accessories perfectly reflected her personality!
Matrix Hotel’s Quartz Ballroom was decorated beautifully in black & white damask accented with turquoise. Alternating centrepieces of white ostrich and peacock feathers sat atop eiffel vases glowing with turquoise lights. Single white carnation blooms in flower tubes were hung from the light structures in the ballroom, creating an amazing chandelier effect!
Small wooden elephants, symbolizing strength and good luck in Chinese culture, were placed on the tables for guests to take home.
Sterling + Heng’s modern wedding invitations and reception stationary were created by PinkPolka Wedding Design.
Sterling, Heng: thank you for allowing us to be a part of your wonderful day. All the best for the future!

Edmonton Wedding Tip: Photos Before the Ceremony
More and more couples are choosing to break tradition and see each other before they walk down the aisle. While this change of format isn’t for everyone, taking photos before the ceremony offers a few key benefits:
- Calm those nerves: If you’re the anxious type, hanging out with the bridal party beforehand will help you relax before the ceremony;
- Feeling fresh: You (and your flowers) will look your best during photos;
- Gone with the gap: If your ceremony and reception are being held at the same venue, taking photos first makes a lot of sense and saves your guests the painful wait in between events;
- Capture the moment: You can still have a wonderful first moment together, and your photographer(s) can ensure it’s captured at all angles.

New Art Gallery of Alberta Open
If you’re searching for a completely unique, urban venue for your Edmonton wedding, look no further. The new Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is now open and is a perfect fit for the contemporary couple looking to wow their wedding guests.
Designed by Los Angeles-based architect Randall Stout, the 85,000 square foot iconic building is certainly its own piece of art in Edmonton’s downtown core. And with a handful of different spaces for 20-250 guests, there are a lot of great options to explore for your wedding.
Drop us a line – we’d love to talk about planning your amazing wedding at the AGA!
